ISLAMABAD, July 12: Pakistan will seek more market access for its products to Mauritius to increase the volume of trade between the two countries.

A commerce ministry official told Dawn on Monday that in this connection, Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan will meet his counterpart in Mauritius Premdut Koonjo on Tuesday.

The Mauritius government besides others has invited the commerce minister to attend a meeting of G-90. Pakistan's exports to Mauritius stood at $40 million during the year 2003-04 as against $2 million last year, an increase of 50 per cent.

The official said that there was a potential to double the current volume of trade between the two countries. According to the official, during the meeting more market access will be sought for Pakistan's textile products, pharmaceuticals and fruits and vegetable.

The major items of Pakistan exports are cotton yarn, fabrics, basmati rice, biscuits, foodstuff, medicines, furniture and stationary, kinoos and potatoes.

APP adds: Meanwhile, a three-member Pakistani delegation led by Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan arrived in Mauritius on Monday to attend the first ministerial meeting of G-90 countries being held on July 12-13.
