ATTOCK, July 8: Ten candidates from the opposition parties and four independents have filed nomination papers to contest the by-polls from NA-59 Attock-III , a constituency vacated by a Pakistan Muslim League MNA to pave way for prime minister-in-waiting Shaukat Aziz's election to the National Assembly.

Of the opposition candidates, four belong to the People's Party Parliamentarians, two come from the PML-N, three are from the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, and one represents the Pakistan Communist Party.

Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz and Eman Waseem, who had vacated the seat, filed their nominations on Tuesday. Those who filed their nominations on Thursday are Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Dr Sikandar Hayat, Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas and Mohammad Naveed Chaudhry (PPP); Sheikh Aftab Ahmed and Malik Suhail Khan (PML-N); Qari Saeedur Rehman, Sardar Nasir Iqbal and Qari Attiqur Rehman (MMA); and Jamil Malik of the PCP.

The independent candidates are Dr Nawab Ambar Shehazad, Abdul Qudoos Awan, Chaudhry Ishtiaq Ahmad Minhas, and Dr Naitian Gul. The papers will be scrutinized on July 9 and 10.
