LARKANA, July 7: District Coordination Officer, Larkana, Dr Badaruddin Ujjan has said that proper planning played a vital role in shaping development activities. He was speaking at a training workshop for district officers held here on Tuesday.
The workshop was organized by the Planning and Development Department in collaboration with Unicef. The DCO said that under the newly introduced local bodies system the district officers must realize their responsibilities and adopt modern knowledge to carry out development schemes.
Dr Ujjan asked the district officers to avail the chance of training. It would help them in preparing PC-1 to PC-V (planning commission format) for the planning process.
Chief of foreign-aided project in Planning Department Hassan Ali, chief of education cell in Planning Department Hashim Mughal in their speeches highlighted the importance of training. They said that earlier such workshops had been held in Khairpur, Sanghar and Jacobabad.
They said under the devolution plan there was a need for such training in education, health, community development, service and works and other departments. The aim of the workshop was to help officials in preparing proper PC-1 in the interest of common man so that the government money could be utilized in a proper manner.
The workshop was largely attended by EDOs of finance and planning, service and works, health, education, community development, besides other officers of the district. Additional Chief Secretary (Development and Planning) Mr Ghulam Sarwar Khero would preside over the closing session of the workshop on Wednesday.
WATER SHORTAGE EXPLAINED: The Rice Canal and Dadu Canal were facing a shortage of water because of reduced water level at upstream Sukkur Barrage. This was stated by the superintendent engineer (Western Sindh Circle), Larkana, on Tuesday.
Talking to officials of Dadu and Rice canals, he said that discharge of water from upstream Sukkur Barrage was reduced to 97,288 cusecs from 114,524 cusecs on Tuesday. As a result, both canals of this circle had been receiving low gauges/ less discharge considerably.
He said that the Irrigation Department was making all possible efforts to provide adequate quantity of water up to the tail-end of all channels. Some channels might face shortage of water at tail ends till the water situation was improved and river level restored at Sukkur Barrage, he added.
