HYDERABAD, June 30: A large number of people, led by nazims of the district's rural union councils, held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Wednesday against withholding of octroi share of the councils.

Hatri Union Council Nazim Khawind Bux Jahejo, Shaikh Bhirkio Nazim Abdul Karim Talpur, Sawan Khan Gopang Nazim Badar Ahmad Memon, Latifabad-10 Nazim Mohammad Yousuf Qureshi, Tando Qaiser Nazim Roshan Ali Shah and Qasimabad-1 Nazim Ali Nawaz Kutrio participated in the demonstration.

They criticized the DCO for withholding the octroi share of the rural union councils. They told journalists that union councils of rural areas of other districts were being given their octroi share but rural councils of the Hyderabad district were deprived of their share.

The nazims said they could not carry out development works in their areas as they did not have funds. They warned that they would continue their protest till the octroi share of the rural union councils was released.

UPLIFT PROJECT: The DCO has been appointed as the project director of the Hyderabad Development Package till the appointment of a full-time project director. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the secretariat of District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman on Tuesday.

The statement said the working schedule of the package was finalized at a meeting held at the Governor's House under the chairmanship of the governor. It was also decided to hold a review meeting on Aug 1 and to convene a meeting of the project's working committee on Aug 31, which would be attended by the project director and the consultant. The district nazim expressed the hope that inaugural ceremony of the package would be performed in December.
