KARACHI, June 30: The town municipal administrations of Gadap and Bin Qasim presented massive budgets for the fiscal 2004-05. The budgets of both towns combined comes to over Rs1337 million.
GADAP: A Rs732.778 million budget of Gadap Town for the fiscal 2004-05 was presented at its council on Tuesday by Town Nazim Ghulam Murtaza Baloch. Budget documents show the town's income for the next financial year at Rs732.778 million as against its total expenditure of Rs 651.897 million, indicating a surplus of Rs80.881 million.
The town's sources of income include funds to be received under the head of matching grant in lieu of urban and rural octroi from the city government, share from property tax, water charges, conservancy tax, and a grant for the town's office building, tender fees, Eidul Azha's cattle bazaar, bathing fee from Manghopir, road cutting charges/ contractors registration fee, marriage halls/restaurants, fee from agricultural shows, cattle farms and industrial exhibition, fee to be received under the head of approved plans, and licence fee, etc.
Giving details of non-development works, the nazim said a total of Rs125.647 million would be spent under the heads of establishment, contingency, repair and maintenance works and general liabilities, etc.
DEVELOPMENT WORKS: He said that a huge amount of Rs496.250 million had been earmarked for the fiscal 2004-05 for undertaking development works which include water supply, sewerage and drainage schemes, construction of dams/bridges/ causeways, roads, streets, culverts, provision of street lights, development/improvement of parks, setting up of citizen community board, graveyard/compound wall, setting of hospital/basic health unit/school (with government's grant) and a substantial amount on the ongoing schemes. The budget session was presided over by Naib Nazim Abdul Sattar Jokhio.
BIN QASIM: The town nazim of Bin Qasim Town, Ashiq Ali Jamote, has announced the town's budget of Rs605 million for the fiscal 2004-05 at its council. The budget session presided over by its convener Tariq Baloch was informed by the nazim that Rs250 million had been earmarked for development works, whereas, Rs350 million had been allocated for non- development expenditures.
Referring to major allocations made in the budget under the head of development works, he said Rs10 million had been provided for street lights, Rs20 million for development and improvement of parks and playgrounds, Rs210 million for construction and repair of roads and pavements, Rs40 million for health and sanitation and Rs100 million for other works.
The nazim said although the town had not received its due share under the head of octroi, the town's priorities included provision of clean water, effective drainage system, parks and playground facilities, street lights, improved sanitary conditions, construction of roads, etc.
KORANGI: A Rs239.825 million budget of Korangi Town for the year 2004-05 has been approved by its council. The town nazim, Abdul Jameel Khan presented the budget at its council session, which was presided over by Naib Nazim Aurangzeb Khan.
The salient feature of the budget is that Rs136m, coming to around 57pc of the total outlay, have been allocated for undertaking development projects in the town. According to budgetary documents, its anticipated income during the coming financial year comes to Rs241 million as against its expenditures of Rs239.825 million, showing a surplus of Rs1.35 million.
The town's sources of income include Rs130 million under the head of matching grant (previously known as octroi), Rs40 million as its share from property and betterment tax, Rs15 million from advertisements, Rs15 million from conservancy tax, Rs7 million from service tax, Rs5 million from sales tax and another Rs18.14 million would be generated by the town from its own sources.
The allocations made under various heads include: Establishment (Rs67 million), contingencies (Rs31.927 million) and maintenance (Rs4.30 million). Highlighting the budget's salient features, the town nazim said the town during the next fiscal year would spend 95.461 million on construction and repairs of various roads and streets, Rs13.5 million for street lights and Rs18 million for parks and playgrounds.
