HYDERABAD, June 27: On the call of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, a complete strike was observed in Dadu, Badin, Shikarpur and Larkana districts and partial strike in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Thatta, Nawabshah, Khairpur and Naushahro Feroze districts on Sunday.

The JSQM leadership had given the strike call in protest against the allocation of funds for the construction of greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam.

In Hyderabad city, Bhittai Nagar, Citizen colony, Naseem Nagar, Sehrish Nagar, Qasimabad, old and new Wahdat colony remained completely closed.

The vehicular traffic also remained thin in these areas.

No strike was observed in the city and Latifabad talukas.

DADU: A complete strike was observed in Dadu, Sehwan, Bhan Saeedabad, Johi, Phulji, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Mehar and Sita road towns.

All bazars, shopping centres and shops remained closed throughout the district. The vehicular traffic also remained thin on the Indus Highway and other roads. Some unknown persons exploded crackers in Dadu, Mehar towns but no untoward incident took place.

SHIKARPUR: A complete strike was observed in the city. The Stuart Ganj police said the JSQM activists threw a cracker on a truck on the Shikarpur-Jacobabad bypass near Shaikh petrol pump as a result the truck was damaged.

The police rushed to the spot and arrested a JSQM activist Jawaid Sethar while his five accomplices identified as Mujeeb Qureshi, Ashfaq Hakro, Raja Dahar, Mumtaz Sanjrani and Nadeem Solangi managed to escape.

BADIN: A complete strike was observed on Sunday in Badin, Shaheed Fazil Raho, Matli, Kario Ghanwar, Tando Bago, Talhar and other towns of the district.All shops, business centres, Pan cabins remained closed for the whole day.However, some youngsters burnt old tyres in various towns. The vehicular traffic on the roads was thin.

LARKANA: A complete strike was observed in the city, Kambar, Ratodero, Dokri, Badah, Shahdadkot, Mirokhan and other parts of the district.

Activists of the JSQM exploded fire crackers on the main roads which forced shopkeers to shut their business.

The police arrested Wajid Unnar, Azhar Ali, Sajid Ali, Mehboob Ali, Naeem Pathan, Nawed Sandano, Ahmed Ali Soomro and others. Traffic on the roads was very thin.

Hundreds of growers, traders and activists of the JSQM took out a procession in Kambar town.

KHAIRPUR: Some parts of the city remained closed on Sunday. The JSQM said that relatives of some activists were detained by the police.

NAWABSHAH: A partial strike was observed here on Sunday. The Sakrand road, hospital road, society, Gharibabad remained completely closed. Police contingents were deployed throughout the city to avert untoward incident.

THATTA: The strike call was partially responded in the district. In Mirpur Bathoro town markets and shopping centres remained closed till the evening.

Youths pelted stones on vehicular traffic and blocked the Bathoro-Sujawal highway by burning tyres on it. The call was partially responded in Thatta, Sujawal, Jati, Chuhar Jamali, Daro and other towns.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Activists of the JSQM took out processions in Moro, Naushahro Feroze and Kandiaro on Sunday.

Activists of the JSQM took out a rally from Bandhi road and marched from the Shahi Bazaar to the press club Moro. In Kandiaro, a partial strike was observed.

SUKKUR: No strike was observed in Sukkur city and the police arrested some eight activists of JSQM whose names were not disclosed. However, strike was observed in Rohri, Kandhra, Salehpat and Pano Akil towns.
