KARACHI: Wage award implementation demanded

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 25: The Dawn unit of the Karachi Union of Journalists held a meeting on Friday at which the implementation of the Seventh Wage Award was discussed.

At the meeting, the journalists working for Dawn demanded that in the interest of better working relations between the employers and employees, the award be implemented immediately.

A resolution adopted at the meeting said: "For several years, the employers have been trying to undermine the importance of both the journalists and the press workers. Unmindful of the fact that their attitude may drive a permanent wedge between them and the employees, they refuse to invest in the human resources available to them."

It urged the newspaper owners to review their stance towards the wage award and implement the same immediately.

Later, the participants of the meeting joined in another protest meeting which had been organized by the Pakistan Herald Workers Union.
