India clinch Peace Cup


KARACHI, June 20: Hosts India clinched the 3-match Peace Cup snooker Test series against Pakistan, when they beat the visitors 5-2 in the second Test at Chandigarh, according to information received here on Sunday.

India won the first Test 4-3 in a thrilling finish. The third and final Test was scheduled to be played on Sunday. India, having the services of top ranking cueists, reigning world champion Pankaj Advani, current Asian champion Alok Kumar and this month's Asian championship runner-up Yasin Merchant out-potted Pakistan.

The only consolation for Pakistan was victories by upcoming star Imran Shehzad and veteran former world amateur champion Mohammad Yousuf. Imran Shehzad beat Manan Chandra 57-53, 71-0, while old guard Mohammad Yousuf surprised Punkaj Advani 49-6, 70-0.

Pakistan's two leading players Khurram Agha and Saleh Mohammad put up a dismal performance, while Imran Shehzad and Atiq Latif drew a lot of appreciation from the Indian coach Micheal Ferreira, for their fighting spirit and outstanding performance against the world-class Indian team.
