QUETTA: Almani-Mahar jirga postponed

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, June 20: A tribal jirga called to resolve a conflict among Mahar, Almani and Korai tribes of Sindh has been postponed. The jirga was scheduled to be held on Sunday at Rojhan Jamali.

The conflict, started among the three tribes after a love- marriage of Shaista Almani and Balkh Sher Mahar, had claimed many lives in armed clashes. The Sindh High Court had recognized the marriage and allowed the two to live as husband and wife. The court had also banned holding of any jirga in this connection.

The jirga was postponed as Sardar Yar Mohammad Jamali and Wadera Khuda Bakhsh Almani could not attend it. The jirga was convened in the native town of Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali with the consent of all the three tribes.

Those who reached Rojhan Jamali to attended the jirga included Federal Minister for Railways Ghaus Bux Mahar; Sardar Mohammed Bux Khan Mahar; Sardar Ali Gohar Khan Mahar; Himmat Ali, father of Shaista Almani and Abdul Jabbar.
