NOWSHERA, June 20: In the light of a compromise arranged by a local jirga between two rival families, district and sessions judge Fazal Subhan Khan on Saturday confirmed pre-arrest bail of five persons accused of parading a girl naked at Kocha Dehri.

The five accused - Said Faqir, Muhammad Faqir, Arshid, Saeed and Amjid - were earlier granted interim pre-arrest bail by the court and Saturday was fixed for the confirmation.

Advocate Zamir Muhammad Khan appeared for the applicant and contended that a compromise had already been reached between the two families and the victim had forgiven the accused.

The court recorded statement of the victim, Ms Rafia, who stated that "they had forgiven the accused for the sake of Allah". The court also recorded statement of the complainant, Fazal Daud, the brother of the victim.

A local jirga on June 10 had hammered out a compromise between the two families and had fined the persons involved in the crime Rs1 million. Relatives of the victim forgave the culprits involved in disgracing the girl and declined to receive the fine.

They said that in their family no money could be received for the sake of honour. The MNA of the area, Maulana Hamidul Haq, said in the jirga that the police should withdraw the case forthwith and honour the jirga decision.
