KARACHI, June 18: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Thursday presided over a three-hour long meeting at the Civic Centre to review water and sewerage problems, besides issues pertaining to trade licensing, parking , traffic and illegal construction, being faced by city traders.
A 60-member delegation, headed by president, Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Siraj Qasim Talee, with DCO Mir Hussain Ali, and EDOs of various city government departments, attended the meeting.
City nazim said the city government would not impose any new tax in its next budget. He said at least 70 per cent of construction in the city involved malpractice at different levels, adding that it was good for owners to get regularized their construction plans and a system would be chalked out to pass the plans on time and to inform the building owners about objections to their buildings.
City nazim also said that the government would not charge more than the prescribed fee for signboards and trade licenses from shopkeepers and nobody would be allowed to harass any shopkeeper.
It was decided that Aiwan-i-Tijarat and I I Chundrigar roads would be included in the Tameer-i-Karachi Programme. The DCO directed Revenue EDO to set up a monitoring committee to curb corruption and take action against those CDGK officials who were involved in harassing business community.
The meeting also decided that DOs, Revenue and Parking, would organize an open kutchery in Saddar and redress complaints regarding trade licenses and parking.
COMMITTEES: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Friday visited the Hawkesbay Truck Stand and issued directive to officials concerned for immediate cleaning of a drain in the area.
He set up a committee in connection with the cleaning of Hawksbay nullah and removal of encroachments from there, while another committee was formed in connection with laying of water and sewerage lines and improving water supply and sewerage systems in the area. The committees will submit their reports within 15 days.
City nazim directed the officials that construction work of a ramp from Mauripur Road to the truck stand be started immediately to facilitate the vehicle movement.
During the visit, chief engineer (mechanical and electrical) assured the people that street lights would be installed by July 15 in the area. The nazim was accompanied by EDO, Works, Shoaib Siddiqi, EDO, Revenue, Mohammed Waseem, DO, Land Management, Najmuddin Sikandar and the office-bearers of the Truck Stand Association.
INQUIRY ORDERED: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has set up a committee to conduct an inquiry into the construction of three parks on the green belt of UC-4, Shah Faisal Town, which will submit its report in a fortnight.
District Officer (Land) Najmuddin Sikandar will be the committee's convener, while the Land Committee chairman Goharus salam, district officer (revenue) Shah Faisal Town and town building officer will be its members.
The body will examine the legal status of the allotment of green belt for the parks and a marriage hall, besides looking into any other allotments of this sort on the green belt.
It will also file its report regarding the nature of construction at the marriage hall, besides inquiring that whether water and sewerage lines have been passed through the belt. The nazim ordered the inquiry on the request of UC-4 Naib Nazim Liaquat Arain. -PPI/APP
