Karachi lift Super Cup

KARACHI, June 17: Karachi won the inaugural NBP-ICA inter-district Super Cup with a crushing seven-wicket victory over Gujranwala in the final at the Shalimar Cricket Ground in lslamabad on Wednesday.

Gujranwala, who were put into bat, were bowled out for 183 in 37.2 overs despite Bilal Hussain's contribution of 71. The opener blasted seven fours and five sixes during his 64-ball knock.

Pacer Mohammad Hasnain claimed three for 29, but the pick of the Karachi bowlers was young off-spinner Irfanuddin who bagged three for 26 in eight overs. He was also adjudged the tournament's best bowler.

Karachi knocked off the required runs in 34 overs for the loss of only three wickets. Naumanullah, who had earlier taken two for 36 with his off-spinners, top-scored with a 76-ball 62 while striking three fours and two sixes.

Skipper Shadab Kabir, the former left-handed Test opening batsman, weighed in with 50 off 71 balls, hitting five boundaries. The second-wicket partnership between Shadab and Nauman realized 103 runs.

Khalid Latif finished off the match with a quick 40 off 20 deliveries and slammed six fours and one six. Bazid Khan of Islamabad was declared the best batsman, Gujranwala's Ahmed Butt the best wicket-keeper while Salman Butt of Lahore was adjudged the best all-rounder.
