ISLAMABAD, June 12: Federal Minister for Information Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday disclosed that eight people suspected of planning a terrorist attack on the convoy of Corps Commander Karachi on Thursday had been nabbed and, according to preliminary reports , the group might have links with Wana militants.

Talking to newsmen in his parliament house chamber, the minister said that sensitive agencies were investigating all aspects of the incident and their report might reveal quite a few things.

He said that the agencies had confirmed the presence of the arrested people at the time of the terrorist attack.

He said it was difficult to say with authority at this juncture but interrogation of the suspects could lead the interrogators to a vast network of terrorists who could even be linked to the Wana situation.

Answering a question about the political situation in the country, he said there was no political crisis and all speculations had died their natural death.

The minister who had earlier in the day called on President Gen Pervez Musharraf said he had discussed with the president the performance of his ministry and a number of other issues including the seventh wage award for journalists.

Asked about the cross-media policy, the minister said the president had asked him to issue ad hoc TV channel licences to newspaper owners, pending the passage of the amendment to the relevant bill.
