KARACHI, June 12: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that there is nothing of the sort that any operation is going to take place against Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

He was talking to newsmen after chairing a meeting on law and order here on Saturday.

When asked to comment on reports appearing in a section of press in this regard, the governor said: "There is neither any reason nor any need for operation against the MQM." He said that MQM was an ally and coalition partner in Sindh as well as at the Centre.

Dr Ibad said that MQM chief Altaf Hussain had condemned the attack on corps commander Karachi and had urged that those responsible for such a cowardly and terrorist act should be taken to task. "This is also the desire of the nation, and the government will not let the people down," the governor said.

In reply to a question, Dr Ibad said he was proceeding to London on a private visit on Sunday morning and would be back on Friday. He said he wanted to go there earlier, but was not finding time because of various events.

He said that during his stay in UK, he would also call on the MQM Chief but there was no official agenda for the meeting.

When asked about his recent meeting with President Musharraf, the governor said that his meeting, along with Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim, was very good.

The president gave guidelines for the progress of Sindh and the same would be carried forward with all seriousness and a sense of commitment, he added.

GOOD NEWS: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, on Saturday, said that people would soon get a "good news" about the recent acts of terrorism.

He stated this while talking to newsmen after chairing a meeting at Governor's House on law and order situation in Karachi. Among others, the meeting was attended by chief secretary, IGP, DG Rangers and others.

Dr Ibad declared that hands of law would certainly reach those who were behind the recent terrorist acts. He said that the law enforcing agencies were working day and night with the cooperation of people to unearth the culprits.

He said cooperation of people was highly imperative, as a result of which fast progress was being achieved and people would soon have an excellent news.

The governor recalled that the terrorist acts had started occurring from May 7 and the last was the attack on army convoy within a span of about one month.

He said that the meeting reviewed all aspects of law and order with special reference to recent terrorist acts. "Direction of investigations is heading in right direction based on clues found," he said.-APP/PPI
