PESHAWAR: Car thieves arrested

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, June 12: The city police claimed to have arrested a car-lifter who was wearing army uniform, along with his four accomplices, and seized three stolen vehicles from them.

Speaking at a press conference at the Police Headquarters, Chief of Capital City Police Masud Paracha said Hasan, son of Mohammad Zaman, was arrested on a tip-off from the Faqirabad area.

Hasan was wearing a fake uniform of the Army major, the police chief said, adding that he had also presented a bogus official identification card when a police team nabbed him.

But during the interrogation, Hasan confessed to having been involved in car-liftings and identified his accomplices, he added.

The interrogation led the arrest of Gul Kareem, Musharraf, Azam and Zahoor- all residents of Mardan district- from Hayatabad township.

The police had also seized a fake Army vehicle's number plate, two pistols and a Kalashnikov from them, Mr Paracha said and added that the car-lifters gang had confessed to committing over 30 crimes in different cities.

KILLED: A man was killed allegedly by his relatives over a property dispute at the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) here on Saturday, said a police official.

Hayat Shah, son of Haider Khan, told police that he came to the LRH to see his hospitalised son, along with his brother Bakhat Wali Shah, at 8:30am.

When they were entering the main gate, his nephew Shabir Khan and his sons Wajid Ali, Ajmal and Irshad opened fire on Bakhat Wali Shah and killed him on the spot, said Hayat Shah.
