ISLAMABAD, June 8: Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro on Tuesday disallowed questions submitted by a member of the People's Party Parliamentarians (PPP) regarding "illegal" appointments in the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), sources told Dawn here.

The sources said the Senate chairman had disallowed the two questions, submitted by PPP Senator Enver Baig, under Rule 45(1) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of the Senate 1988, stating that the subject matter had no public importance. When contacted, the PPP senator confirmed that he had received a letter from the Senate Secretariat informing him that his questions had been disallowed.

Mr Baig criticized the chairman for killing these "important" questions and said the matter was of great public importance because had these jobs been advertised several eligible and qualified candidates could have applied for them.
