KARACHI, June 2: Five policemen, booked and arrested after the May 26 bomb blasts near PACC, for negligence of duty, were denied bail on Wednesday. Judicial Magistrate, South, Rajesh Chander Rajput, rejected the bail applications of sub-inspector Shamsul Qamar, ASI Babul , head constable Muzaffar and constables Shabbir and Fayyaz after hearing the arguments from the prosecution and defence attorneys.
The policemen were booked and arrested on May 27 under Section 155-C of the Police Order 2002 by the Artillery Maidan police for negligence of official duties. They were posted at a picket near the Pakistan American Cultural Centre (PACC).
The invoked section pertains to any wilful breach, or neglect of any provision of law, or of any rule or regulation, or any order which a policeman is bound to observe or obey.
ACQUITTED: The additional district and sessions judge, West, Gulshan Ara Chandio acquitted five accused in a robbery case. Muhammad Afzal, Tariq, Afzal, Mateen and Nadeem were booked by the Site police in 2002.
REMANDED: Judge Arshad Noor of Anti-Terrorist Court on Wednesday remanded Kamran Atif, a leader of the Mujahideen Al-Almi to judicial custody till June 10, agencies add.
The court directed the investigation officer to submit charge-sheet against the accused on next date of hearing. The accused was booked by Taimuria police in six cases, including murder of a woman, possession of fire arms, explosives and other ammunition.
KIDNAPPING CASE: The same bench adjourned the hearing of a kidnapping for ransom case against two accused after deposition by eyewitnesses. Two brothers Shahid and Zahid are being tried on charges of kidnapping Amir Haroon in SITE area for ransom.
Abductee Amir, his father Haroon and driver Javed recorded their statements and identified the accused. The court fixed June 3 for next hearing.
