Training programme for talented goalkeepers


KARACHI, May 20: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is organizing an 11-day programme to train, coach and groom promising goalkeepers with the aim of raising the standard of this vital department of the game.

Director Administration PHF, Karachi Iftikhar Syed said on Thursday that former Olympian and Pakistan senior team goal-keeping coach Shahid Ali Khan would supervise the programme.

Masood-ur-Rehman, Muhammad Arshad and Abdul Ghafoor are among the other coaches on a panel to impart training according to the latest developments in goal-keeping department.

Besides practical and field coaching, participating goal-keepers will be informed about the latest developments with the help of videos and lectures. They will also be briefed about the importance of using protecting gear.

Goal-keeping is considered to be a crucial area in modern field hockey which plays an important role or otherwise in the final outcome of matches and tournaments.

PHF advised all the departmental teams and affiliated clubs to send their goal-keepers to the programme. Last date for registration to attend the coaching camp is June 10, which can be made at PHF office at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium. -APP
