KARACHI: CS takes notice of power, water crises

KARACHI, May 8: Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Kazi has taken strict notice of the persisting power crisis in the city and asked the KESC authorities to rid the citizens of the miseries arising out of the unnecessary suspension of power supply.

He recalled that a strategy was discussed, and supposed to be adopted, in the May 1 crisis management meeting held to overcome the problem created by the defective power supply system.

Referring to the recommendations made in the backdrop of monsoons and summers, the CS said: "In the light of the same, there remains no plausible reason for power crisis leading to unannounced loadshedding." He said that the hardship being faced by consumers in this regard, needed to be addressed in a proper manner.

He stressed that power supply system should be perfect enough to satisfy the consumers who should not face any problem in getting an uninterrupted supply.

Dr Kazi also expressed concern over the seriousness of water shortage and directed the KWSB authorities to use generators where the shortage was feared to assume a serious proportion due to power failure. He directed them that a foolproof distribution and regulatory system be adopted in this regard.

Meanwhile, expressing his displeasure over the supply of contaminated water in Gulshan-i-Faisal and Bath Island, the CS called upon the KWSB to immediately take corrective measures. He said that the local government department and DCO should submit to him a report about the situation within the next two days.

Dr Kazi also issued directive for addressing the problems of contaminated water and inadequate supply to the areas of Hussain D. Silva Town, Orangi, Baldia, North Karachi, Khokhrapar, etc. -APP
