GUJRANWALA, May 5: A huge quantity of wheat laden on two trucks were seized on Wednesday by police at the Upper Chenab river check point in Wazirabad. The wheat-laden trucks (RIF-4986) and (MR-3985) were on their way to tribal area from the local grain market when the police intercepted them and recovered about 900 wheat bags. The Police also arrested truck crew Safdar and Pervaiz Iqbal.

Further investigation is under way. Meanwhile, the workers of two wheat flour mills manhandled assistant food controller Sajid and food inspector Rana Liaquat at Wahando and Kamoke check posts for checking trailers loaded with wheat.

They also thrashed food officials and drove away with their vehicles. It was stated that about 1,000 wheat bags were loaded on these two trailers. Police have registered a case against flour mill owners and their men and are investigating.

TRANSFERRED: Seventeen employees of the Cantonment Board, from the clerk to secretary ranks, were transferred to other provinces by director general Maj-Gen Javed Iqbal here on Wednesday.

A large scale transfer has been made for the first time in the CB while senior military officers have started an inquiry against these employees for their alleged involvement in corruption.

Those transferred included CB secretary Hashim Ali Khan (Hyderabad), tax superintendent Muhammad Shabbir Awan (Quetta), draftsman Muhammad Latif (Karachi), garden superintendent Muhammad Irshad (Peshawar), sub-engineer Afzal Naz (Gawader), water supply supervisor Iqrar Ahmad (Pannu Aqil, Sindh), record-keeper Muhammad Nawaz (Dera Ismail Khan), clerk Said (Rawalpindi), building inspector Faqirullah (Lora Lai), tax collector Saghir Ahmad (Quetta) and Munir Ahmad tax collector (Kohat).

These employees have been directed to leave the charge immediately.

SHAHBAZ: The outlawed Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan former chief Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi alleged on Wednesday that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif was involved in extrajudicial killings of 42 activists of his party.

He said his party would move court against Mr Sharif, who already had been declared a proclaimed offender. Speaking at a news conference at Qila Deedar Singh, he also said his party would support the religious parties in their movement against the government.

WOMEN WING: The PML-N women wing announced on Wednesday that it would offer arrests in Lahore if the party chief was held by police on his arrival.

VISIT: Provincial Labour and Human Resources Minister Syed Akhtar Husain Rizvi on Wednesday expressed concern over mismanagement at the social security hospital in Model Town.
