'Coalition troops enter Pakistani village'

By Pazir Gul

MIRAMSHAH, April 29: Troops of coalition forces in Afghanistan entered a Pakistani village in the North Waziristan tribal region on Wednesday and distributed leaflets offering rewards for information about Taliban commander Maulvi Jalaluddin Haqqani and his aides , residents said here on Thursday.

Some local people, claiming to have received the leaflets, said these were distributed among the Madakhel sub-tribe of the Wazir tribe. However, the Director-General of ISPR, Maj-Gen Shaukat Sultan, when approached by Dawn on phone, denied any incursion by US troops, saying that no foreign troops "will be allowed to enter Pakistani territory".

According to the residents, coalition troops and soldiers of the Afghan National Army entered the border village of Mir Sperkay, about 80 kms South of here. They searched many vehicles and beat up some tribesmen who resisted them.

The leaflets written in Pushto offered rewards of $2500 and more for information relating to whereabouts of Maulvi Haqqani and other Taliban leaders. Mir Sperkay is near Tani district in the Khost province of Afghanistan.
