PESHAWAR, April 21: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council will soon issue a notification granting recognition to Saidu and Gomal Medical Colleges.
Health Minister Inayatullah Khan said this at a news conference here on Wednesday.
According to him, these colleges had been established six years ago, but were not being accorded recognition by the PMDC, owing to lack of infrastructure. "The MMA government's efforts and allocation of funds would ultimately result in the recognition of these colleges and the prevalent unrest among students of these institutions would end," he said.
Flanked by secretary health Dr Ihsanul Haq, he said that the government was also putting finishing touches to the service structure for paramedics that will benefit 9,000 health workers in the NWFP and Fata. The minister said that the government had also allocated Rs60 million for free treatment of seriously-ill patients at the four teaching hospitals of the province.
The facility would be extended to hospitals at district headquarters next year. He also informed that an endowment fund was established with a seed money of Rs50million, the profit on which would be used for the treatment of chronically-ill patients.
