SUKKUR, April 20: Maulana Mohammad Ajmal Qadri, president of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, has said that a new political alliance is in the offing which can appear on political scene in a couple of months.
He said that the alliance would not include the Jamaat Islami and JUI (F) but the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and PPP were likely to be included in it for which efforts were being made by himself and Maulana Samiul Haq.
Speaking at a press conference at a local hotel on Monday, Maulana Qadri said that he had recently held a meeting with People's Party Parliamentarians leaders, Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Nafees Siddiqui, during a visit of India and they had also agreed to forge a grand alliance.
He said that negative policies of the Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal had exposed it and disappointed the people. He lashed out at the MMA, saying that it had bagged votes in the elections on the slogans of Afghanistan and Taliban but soon forgot the issues while the country and the organization were being attacked by US forces.
He said that while Wana operation was in progress, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had proceeded on a foreign trip and even called on British Foreign Minister Jack Straw, forgetting that the UK was a close partner of the USA in the war against Taliban.
He said that the MMA was instrumental in the passage of 17th constitutional amendment but had now made a issue of the president's uniform. It was being done by them only to deceive the people, he said.
He cautioned the people to be conscious about the tricks and strategy of the MMA which, he argued, had been adopted by them to regain the lost ground.Answering a question, he said that the MMA was neither in the government nor in the opposition and it had a hung position in the parliament.
He said that the government could not resolve key issues like the Kalabagh Dam and Greater Thal canal and a prime minister of towering stature was needed for this purpose.
