LAHORE, April 20: MMA's acting president Qazi Husain Ahmad warned Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday that he would not be tolerated as president in uniform after Dec 31. "The agreement on the 17th constitutional amendment was signed after we had threatened to launch a war on Islamabad in case the government failed to abide by the constitution.

The move could be revived if the government created the same situation," he told a gathering after taking oath as Jamaat-i-Islami amir for the fifth consecutive term. The Jamaat is the second largest component of the six-party religious alliance MMA.

"Under the 17the amendment there is no room for Gen Musharraf to continue wearing the two caps of the President and the army chief. Any move of enacting a law to exempt him from the constitutional bar will be against the constitution itself and is bound to backfire," the Qazi added.

Lashing out at government's Kashmir, Afghanistan, Wana and education policies, he said the military government was advancing US agenda through the introduction of secular syllabi.

He asked Gen Musharraf to explain how he offered a joint syllabus to New Delhi at an online seminar organized by an Indian newspaper recently. Qazi Husain also asked the Agha Khan Foundation to keep its hands off the education sector in Pakistan.

"The Agha Khanis are acceptable in trade and health sectors but they cannot be allowed to promote the US agenda in education field." He claimed that Gen Musharraf had signed agreements with the foundation to surrender control of educational boards in the country even before the parliament came into being.

He saw US hand behind changes in the syllabi for make secular coming generations of Muslims. The United States had made public its nefarious designs by announcing its plan to introduce governments in Muslim states, he added.

He regretted that missionaries and foreign-funded NGOs were free to adopt syllabus of their choice for the schools being run by them while attempts were being made to bring religious schools under state control.

Condemning the operation in Wana, Qazi Husain said a conspiracy was being hatched to make the army a mercenary force devoid of any ideology and creed. Referring to US and Israeli terrorism against Afghans, Iraqis and Palestinians, the MMA leader said the Ummat was not weak from any aspect to face this challenge however the rulers imposed on Muslim states were either apathetic to the cause or were siding with the imperialistic force.

He announced that Friday (April 23) would be observed as a protest day against Israel's threat to target Khalid Misha'al next.
