KARACHI, April 20: The city government will start construction work at Sharah-i-Orangi and get it completed in a record period. This was stated by City Nazim Niamatullah Khan while talking to residents of Orangi where he administered polio drops to some children.

Regarding the construction of Shahrah-i-Orangi, he said the project would cost Rs500 million and work on its first phase had been started with the issuance of tenders. He said that the city government was constructing roads of international standard, which would have at least 20-year life.

Commenting on problems of Orangi Town administration, he said that political compulsions had halted the development work in the town and area people were enduring hardships. He warned that the city government could carry out development projects with the support of union council nazims if the attitude of certain town nazims remained the same.

On the occasion, the nazim mentioned that the long pending issue of water scarcity in SITE Town had been solved with the support of SITE Association. He pledged that he would ensure that water quota for the area was raised. The programme was attended by Site THO Dr Haroon Imtiaz and Dr Abdullah Muttaqi, besides other officials associated with the World Health Organization. -APP
