RAWALPINDI: 4 of a family killed

RAWALPINDI, March 27: Four members of a family were killed and two injured after a United Nations jeep crashed into their cab here on The Mall in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

According to doctors and police investigating officer, the death toll could rise as the cab driver, Mohammad Hanif, was in critical condition.

Raja Asim and Faisal Ali Shah were returning to Dhamial from the railway station in a cab (RIH-1452) after receiving Tauqir Baig, his wife Shamim Akhtar, son Amir Tauqir, 5, and daughter Ayesha Tauqir, 2, when a speeding UN jeep smashed into their vehicle on a U-turn, the police said.

As a result, Tauqir Baig, his son Amir, brother-in-law Faisal Ali Shah and another relative Raja Asim were killed on the spot. Tauqir's wife and daughter, and the cab driver sustained injuries.

People from the surrounding areas rushed to the scene and pulled the bodies and the injured out of the wreckage. The injured were first taken to the military hospital, from where they were later shifted to the DHQ hospital.
