OKARA, March 26: Two outlaws, a sub-inspector and a passerby were killed while a constable injured in a shootout, some 30km away from here, on Friday afternoon.

Reports said two highwaymen snatched a car near Dajkot Town, Faisalabad, and entered Okara district through Mari Pattan Ravi bridge. Later, they broke a police barrier near Thatta Baig on the Okara-Faisalabad Road and fled towards the Okara-Noorshah Road.

After a radio message, a police party led by Okara DPO Syed Zafar Abbas started chasing the outlaws, but they left the car on the road and snatched a jeep. However, the police encircled the dacoits and exchanged fire with them. In the crossfire, SI Jehangir Kamyana died instantly and constable Ismail Khan sustained injuries and was taken to the DHQ Hospital.

In the meantime, a police contingent surrounded the dacoits near Bhajian village and exchanged fire with them as a result of which both the outlaws, so far unidentified, and a passerby cyclist were killed.

TENANT HELD: The cantonment police have arrested seven "proclaimed offenders" of Anjuman-i-Mazareen. The accused were identified as Muhammad Altaf, Ghulam Rasool, Muhammad Zubair, Gulzar, Haji Latif, Shafique and Aslam. Tenants took out a procession at 15/4L for their release on Friday.

THEFT: Unidentified thieves stole ceiling fans, clocks and some other valuables from lawyers chambers and the court of Civil Judge Mukhtar Ahmad Gondal. The DBA president got a case registered with Sadar police.
