Vietnamese president arrives today

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, March 23: Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong arrives here on Wednesday with a 47-member official delegation and 50 businessmen on a four-day state visit that promises to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

The visit assumes special significance as it will be the first head of state-level visit from Vietnam to Pakistan. Also, important agreements are expected to be signed between the two sides to strengthen bilateral cooperation, the basis for which was laid during President Gen Pervez Musharraf's visit to Hanoi in May 2001.

"Two agreements and two Memorandums of Understanding are expected to be inked between the two countries during the visit," informed sources told Dawn on Tuesday.

One agreement will be in the area of science and technology and the other on avoidance of double taxation, the sources said, adding that the two MoUs relate to collaboration between the two State Banks and consultation between the two foreign ministries.
