RAWALPINDI, March 20: The special anti-terrorism court No-1 here on Saturday remanded former MNA and one of the three accused in Maulana Azam Tariq murder case, Nawab Amanullah Khan Sial, in police custody for five days.

Golra police, Islamabad, produced Amanullah Khan Sial before the judge, Manzoor Ahmed Mirza, and sought his 14-day physical remand. The police contended that it wanted to recover the arms from the accused used in the incident. However, the court granted a five-day remand and also directed the police to conduct a medical test of the MNA and provide him medical facilities, if needed.

Mr Sial, Allama Sajid Ali Naqvi, chief of the outlawed Islami Tehrik Pakistan (ITP), and Allama Syed Sibtain Ali Kazmi are nominated in the case. Sajid Ali Naqvi is already in jail, while Mr Kazmi is still at large.

Meanwhile, in the same case the court fixed April 6 for framing charges against Allama Sajid Ali Naqvi. Police have already furnished an incomplete challan of the case with the court. The home department has also granted permission to the court to start the trial inside Adiala Jail due to security reasons.

The court also recorded the statement of a prosecution witness in a case in which about 34 activists of Millat-i-Islamia Pakistan (MIP) had been arrested by the Aabpara police for vandalising the public and private property in Melody area soon after the funeral prayers of Maulana Azam Tariq. The court also adjourned the case till March 22.

The court also summoned SHO Ganjmandi police station Raja Saqlain for recording his statement in the famous Shah Najaf Imambargah terrorism case.
