SARGODHA, March 20: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has said that Rs140 million will be spent on the provision of gas supply to over 50,000 people in Sargodha during the current fiscal year.

This he said while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the gas facility to New Satellite Town here on Saturday.

The governor said the provincial government would also provide Rs150 million for the improvement of sewerage system in the Sargodha district.

The government, he said, was also taking steps for the uplift of health, education, communication, agriculture and other sectors in the province.

At least Rs450 million would be incurred on looking up the education in each district of the Punjab during the next three years, he said.

Earlier, provincial Minister Chaudhry Aamer Sultan Cheema and District Nazim Malik Amjad Ali Noon apprised the governor of the problems faced by the people in Sargodha district.

Later, the governor performed the stone-laying ceremony of Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Block and Ghazali Block of the Sargodha University.

Lauding the high standard of education, Khalid Maqbool said the university was also providing research opportunity to students of Sargodha and adjoining districts.

The governor said the trend of commercial education was being discouraged in universities throughout the province so that commoners could get equal opportunity of acquiring quality education.

He disclosed that the syllabus and mode of examination in universities were being changed which would further help improve the education standard. He assured that the university campus would soon be expanded.

Earlier, vice-chancellor Dr Riazul Haq Tariq presented the welcome address and briefed the governor about the progress made in a short span by the university.

Meanwhile, the governor also launched Khushhali Bank's pilot partnership marketing project with Pakistan Armed Services board enabling the bank to extend micro loans to retired employees of defence forces.

Speaking on the occasion, bank president Ghalib Nishtar said the main aim of establishing the institution was to strengthen the country's economy.
