LAHORE, March 20: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has asked the town Nazims to take steps for the removal of encroachments and checking the construction of unauthorized buildings.

He told a Nazim's delegation which called on him here on Saturday that the City District Government should expedite the provision of health and sanitation facilities to the people.

He said he had provided Rs170 million to the CDG for the purchase of sanitation machinery and equipment.

He said defective sewerage system was creating problems for the residents of low-lying areas in general and Walled City in particular. The provincial government had also provided Rs100 million to the CDG for the repair of drainage system in Chowk Nakhuda, Shad Bagh, Faiz Bagh and other low-lying areas.

The chief minister said two pumps had been sanctioned for installation on the Khokhar Road at a cost of Rs40 million for ensuring speedy disposal of rain water from Misri Shah, Data Nagar, Chah Miran and adjoining areas. Two more pumps would be installed at the Outfall Road Pumping Station at a cost of Rs25 million for improvement in disposal of rain water from Lakshmi Chowk, Nisbet, Thornton and Nabha roads and adjoining areas.
