GUJRANWALA: Naib Nazim kidnapped

GUJRANWALA, March 17: A Union Council Naib Nazim was kidnapped on Wednesday by a proclaimed offender for the release of his condemned brother from jail in Kamoki.

Mari Thakeran UC Naib Nazim Mian Muzzamil was pursuing murder cases of his cousin Asgher and his son Taufiq Ahmad who were killed by PO Azam and his brother some two years ago. A local court had handed down death sentence to Muhammad Akhter and declared his brother Azam as PO.

On Wednesday, the PO and his accomplices kidnapped complainant Mian Muzzamil when he was on way to his village from Kamoki by his car. The accused forced him to record his statement before court that he had pardoned the condemned prisoner.

The PO also threatened his heirs that Muzzamil would be killed if they did not record their statements before court for the release of his brother. Kamoki police have registered a case against the PO and his accomplices.

ELECTED: At least four aspirants of local bodies bypolls, including three for the slot of Nazims, were declared elected unopposed by returning officer here on Wednesday.

According to a report, rivals of these candidates withdrew their nomination papers. Those declared elected unopposed are: Sajjad Haider from Union Council No 75, Amir Farooq from Kohlowal UC, Shaheen Dar from Mari Khurd UC and Imrana Khaliq from Nat Kalan UC.

Meanwhile, the returning officers issued election symbols to all aspirants and displayed the final list. Around nine councillors, including two women councillors, in various union councils had already been declared elected unopposed by the ROs a few days ago.
