SHEIKHUPURA, March 17: Transporters of Sheikhupura, Farooqabad and adjacent areas have expressed their anguish over delay in ongoing repair work on Lahore-Sargodha Road near Machike, some 8kms from here.
Transporters led by Farooqabad Nazim Haji Ilyas said that the repair work started some six months back had to be completed by March 30. But, he apprehended that the slow pace of work indicated that it would take another six months to complete the task.
He alleged the Highway department only a year ago had the same portion of the road repaired through its favourite contractor with a huge sum of Rs4 million. He demanded an impartial inquiry against the contractor of the department concerned.
The Nazim blamed that the traffic remained suspended for several hours between Sheikhupura and Farooqabad near Machike. Sometime, he said an ambulance carrying patient trapped in a traffic jam causing great inconvenience to the patient and his family members. He demanded that the ongoing repair work should be accelerated to ensure the completion of the road without further loss of time.
