KARACHI, March 17: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has taken serious notice of the unabated encroachment in Surjani Township and fleecing of people by unscrupulous elements through offering illegal plots in river bed.

He directed DCO Mir Hussain Ali, Town Police Officer, the town administration and the SHO concerned to remove encroachment immediately and take action against those who were indulged in fleecing people.

The governor issued these orders during his visit to different sectors of Surjani Town and Khuda Ki Basti on Wednesday. He was accompanied by the DCO, MPA Muhammad Hussain and Advisor on Local Government Waseem Akhtar.

The area people, who gathered around him, brought their pressing problems in his knowledge pertaining to non-availability of water, poor sewerage system and encroachment in the midst of road. They also urged the governor for opening another outlet to the township by building roads up to Gulshan-i-Maimar and industrial area.

Dr Ibad expressed regret over the pathetic condition in the township for insensitivity of authorities towards basic amenities of the residents although the township was planned 30 years back.

He said that the government had earlier held a meeting on these issues and he had come to assess the ground situation, as the government was keen to facilitate all citizens.

He directed the officials concerned to improve sewerage system and lay water pipeline in those areas, where there was no water supply. Till completion of these projects, he said, water should be supplied to the area people through tankers.

Moreover, he said that roads including Sharah-i-Zahid Hussain be built and patchwork on the roads, where craters had developed, should be carried out immediately. The governor pledged that he would consider the demand of area people regarding road leading to Gulshan-i-Maimar from Surjani Town.
