More services under GST net

By Mubarak Zeb Khan

ISLAMABAD, March 12: The Central Board of Revenue has proposed to the federal government the inclusion of six to 15 new services to be brought under the GST net from the next financial year.

Well-placed sources at the finance ministry told Dawn on Friday that the CBR had turned down proposals of the four provinces to bring more than 50 services under the GST net.

The four provinces have submitted their lists of services to the federal government what they wanted to bring under the GST net to get more shares in the NFC award.

To consider the proposals, CBR has constituted a working group on extension of GST for broadening the tax base.

According to the sources, the committee proposed that only those services would be brought under the GST net that had some documentary records.

It was not possible only to increase the number of services to be brought under the GST net.

The sources said the committee had worked out the revenue impact of around 10 services for brining under the GST net, which could generate revenue. Currently GST is collected only on six services.
