HYDERABAD: Movement of unfit vehicles to be checked

HYDERABAD, March 11: Members of the city council on Wednesday appointed a committee to suggest proposals after checking the movement of unfit vehicles.
The committee comprized Yaqoob Bhatti, Waheed Ajmeri, Yaqoob Sheikh and four officials of departments concerned.
Earlier, in the council meeting traffic in charge Shamsul Arfeen said about 7,000 mini taxis plied on the city roads which were not fit for transportation. He said around 98 per cent did not have fitness certificates.
Mr Arfeen said some taxis were driven by minor children and traffic police imposed fines of around Rs4 to 5 lacs rupees per month. Anwar Memon of the excise police said issuance of fitness certificate was responsibility of the vehicle inspectors as his department was only responsible for checking taxes of vehicles.
During the meeting members also accused the union council Nazims of corruption. Ayaz Arain on the pointation of Anwar Chundrigar said after the decision of TCC to appoint a UC Naib Nazim as in charge health and sanitation affairs, it had irritated some Nazims, who were allegedly involved in corruption.
He maintained that after Naib Nazims took care of sanitation and health affairs in UCs subsequently the wrong doings of Nazims came to an end. Mr Arain rejected charges that Naib Nazims were involved in corruption or irregularities.
