MIRPURKHAS, March 10: District Nazim Pir Shafqat Hussain Shah has taken a notice of excesses against the wheat growers by officials of the Sindh food department.

He was talking to growers during his visit to different parts of the district. The growers told the Nazim that there was no ban on the movement of wheat within district and added that forcible purchase of wheat from growers by the food department officials was illegal.

The people complained against the officials while accusing them of forcible procurement of wheat from growers which had reached chakkis with the help of police.

They added that despite harvesting of new crop, wheat shortage persisted and flour was sold at exorbitant rates which poor people could not afford to purchase. District Nazim assured them that he would approach the higher authorities in this regard.

ACCIDENTS: A shepherd, Peeral, son of Ghulam Mohammad, was hit by a coaster near Sindhri when he was on his way to the village.

He was rushed to the civil hospital Mirpurkhas where he succumbed to injuries. The Dilbar Maher police impounded the coaster and arrested its driver.

In another incident, a coach hit Wari, wife of Keomal Kolhi, 40, near Khadim Ali Shah village on the Mirwah road. She died on her way to hospital. In yet another incident, two youths Raheem Halepoto and Ghulam Rasool Mari were injured when their bike slipped as a result both sustained serious injuries and rushed to the civil hospital Mirpurkhas where Raheem Halepoto died after some time.

DESILTING: The Nara Canal Area Water Board director here on Tuesday notified that water supply would remain suspended in the lower Nara canal from March 15 to April 25 due to necessary repair and desilting works.

BAN: The district Nazim has banned operating of photostat machines during examination hours of class-IX and X till March 18 in the district.
