Health cover to the poor promised

SUKKUR, March 7: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali said here on Sunday that the government had embarked on a comprehensive plan to provide effective health cover to all the people in the country, especially the weaker section of the society.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the second phase of the Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital where he also laid the foundation of the Paramedics Training Academy.

He said the Al-Shifa Trust had a long history of efforts and hard work of its staff who had contributed in providing eye treatment and surgery facilities to the ailing masses from all parts of the country.

He stressed the need for bringing about a radical change in the life of common man which was a high priority of the government. He said his government intended to pursue the agenda of public welfare with attention and vigour.

He announced a donation of Rs20 million and two air-conditioned buses on behalf of the federal government and Rs10 million from the Sindh government for Al-Shifa Trust.

Regarding a proposal of Al-Shifa Trust chairman for allotting a small strip of land along their Sukkur Hospital, the prime minister said he had talked to the federal minister for railways, Ghaus Bakhsh Khan Mahar, who had agreed to allot the land free of cost for parking of vehicles.
