Altaf demands judicial probe

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, March 7: Muttahida Qaumi Movement has lashed out at People's Party Parliamentarians leadership for holding the MQM responsible for the murder of PPP MPA Abdullah Murad.

The criticizm was voiced by MQM chief Altaf Hussain while speaking by telephone to party activists outside the MQM zonal office here on Sunday. The speech was heard in different districts of Sindh, including Dadu and Khairpur.

Mr Hussain condemned the murder of Mr Murad and demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter. He rejected accusations of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto that the MQM was involved in assassination of the MPA. He alleged that the PPP itself was involved in the murder and was blaming the MQM to destabilize the Sindh government.

He said participants of Mr Murad's funeral procession had stoned the house of a Muttahida nominee for last elections in the area. The Muttahida leader asked the PPP leadership to disclose the names of those who knew assailants of Mr Murad.

About the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, he asked MMA leaders to resign first from NWFP and Balochistan governments in the wake of Wana operation and Quetta killings before asking the Sindh government to resign. He said political parties had the right to express their opinions. He asked MQM activists to adhere to party guidelines.
