MANSHERA: Transporters call off strike

By Our Correspondent

MANSEHRA, March 7: After holding a meeting with the local administration and police, the transporters have called off their wheel-jam strike. The transporters had gone on strike on March 3, to press for the removal of a toll plaza on the Abbottabad-Mansehra section of the Karakoram Highway.

During a protest demonstration a police sub-inspector was killed and two constables injured when some miscreants opened fire. The decision to end the strike was announced by District Nazim Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah at a press conference here on Saturday after the meeting, which was also attended by SSP Ehsan Tufail, ulema and political figures.

The Nazim said that the National Highway Authority (NHA) was responsible for the loss of life and property. He warned that if the National Highway Authority authorities did not remove the toll plaza by March 31, they would be held responsible for any untoward situation.
