One dead, 17 injured in Kabul clash

KABUL, March 1: One person was killed and at least 17 injured in a clash outside an army training centre in west Kabul on Monday, according to police sources.

The incident happened at the end of the afternoon in District 6 which is largely populated by the Hazaras minority.

On Monday Hazaras were observing "ashura". According to one police official, who asked not to be named, the incident was prompted by a dispute between a group of Hazaras and a student at the Afghan National Army Training College.

After the altercation was broken up by police, the Hazaras returned with weapons and opened fire on the college, killing one person and wounding at least 17 others, the source said. The casualty figures were confirmed by an interior ministry official.-AFP
