Govt may allow used auto parts import

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 25: The government is likely to allow import of used auto parts which are not manufactured locally. This was stated by Industries and Production Minister Liaquat Jatoi in a meeting with a business delegation led by former president , Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sohail A. Sethi, here on Wednesday.

The minister assured the delegation that his ministry would soon issue an NoC for allowing the legal import of used auto parts which were not manufactured locally. "The ministry of industries has no objection on import of used auto parts," he said.

Sohail Sethi has assured the minister that the legal import of auto parts would generate around Rs4 billion revenue for the national kitty. He said that smuggling of auto parts had resulted in a loss of around Rs20 billion to the national exchequer annually. Mr Sethi was of the opinion that the legal import of used auto parts would discourage the smuggling to a great extent.
