Parties warned against leaving MMA

SWABI, Feb 20: A member of the National Assembly from Peshawar, Shabbir Ahmad Khan, has said that parting ways with the religious alliance by any of the component parties will be tantamount to suicide.

"I don't want to go into details of difficulties which would be faced by the MMA leadership if any component chooses to part ways with the bloc. It would have negative consequences for the party leaving the alliance," he said while talking to Dawn here on Friday about JUI-S leadership's decision to quit the alliance.

Mr Shabbir, who is also the president of Shabab-i-Milli Pakistan, conceded that Samiul Haq's decision had created doubts among the people and the alliance partners. Maulana Sami issued such statements to gain some weight, but it created difficulties for the MMA leadership, he added.

Split of the MMA was one of the main objectives of the American administration, he said, adding that all conspiracies aimed at denting the alliance would be foiled.

About the protest campaign launched by the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy, he said the ARD leadership had failed to motivate the people because two major parties in it wanted to strike deals with the government to bring back their exiled leaders.

"There is a gulf of difference in the priorities of the people and the ARD leadership and that is the main reason they could not achieve their objectives," he observed.

ACCIDENT: Seven people were seriously injured when three vehicles collided here on Friday.

A marriage party was on its way on its way from Saleem Khan village to Bamkhel. When it reached near the tubewell bus stop on the Swabi-Topi road the three vehicles collided with each other.

The injured people said that over speed was the cause of the accident, as the drivers were trying to take a lead over the other. Two of the injured people were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, where they were stated to be in critical condition.

The injured people were identified as bridegroom Bilal Ahmad's father Faqir Rehman, Bakht Zaman Khan, Rahim Akbar, Fazal Rabi, Abdur Rehman and a juvenile.
