KARACHI, Feb 20: Four persons died and six children among 10 others were injured in road accidents on Friday. Two women passengers died and 10 others were injured in an accident on National Highway.
Police said that two coaches were speeding when a coach (PE-4173) hit a pavement near Sindh Social Security Hospital.
Police said that Aziza, 50, and Hukum Jan, 40, died on the spot while Bushra, 4, Sakhi, 5, Tariq, 5, Farhan, 11, Shazia, 12 and Alisha, 11, Shamim, 40, Azizuddin, 40, Gulzar Begum and Hifazat Begum suffered injures in the accident.
The errant coach driver escaped from the spot following the accident, police added. On M.A. Jinnah Road, a speeding minibus of route (19-D) killed a young motorcyclist on Friday morning.
Police said that Furqan, 25, was knocked down by the minibus in the limits of Preedy police station. The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The errant driver escaped from the spot leaving the vehicle abandoned, police added. In a hit-and-run accident, an unidentified was knocked down to death near Toll Plaza, Super Highway. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.
DIE: A woman died of burns during treatment at the Civil Hospital here on Friday. Shahnaz Kausar, 30, was allegedly set on fire a few days ago by her husband inside her house in Mehmoodabad. She was taken to the hospital where she died on Friday.
Police claimed to have arrested her husband, who had allegedly set her on fire, from Kashmir Colony. Meanwhile, Farah Naseem, 19, who was brought with serious burn wounds from Nazimabad to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, died during treatment at the hospital on Friday. Police were investigating the circumstances in which she suffered the burns.
ARRESTED: Police on Friday morning arrested a suspect from the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he had come for treatment. Police said some armed suspects were looting an internet cafe located in Karachi Administrative Society on Thursday night when police reached the spot. The suspects escaped by opening the fire at the police. However, one of themwas injured when police retaliated.
On Friday morning, police arrested the injured suspect, later identified as Danish, from the JPMC. Meanwhile, police rounded up 19 suspects and recovered arms and charas from their possession from different areas of the city, adds PPI.
