PESHAWAR, Feb 20: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Friday categorically stated that there were no two opinions about his government commitment to establish the writ of the government , the rule of law, improved law and order situation and maintaining sectarian harmony during Muharram.
He was presiding over a meeting at the Frontier House to review overall law and order situation in the province, poppy crop, maintenance of peace and harmony during Muharram and arrangements being made in this connection.
The chief minister highlighted the pre-requisites for operational policing, government activities for poppy destruction, development plans for the poppy growing areas and practical steps to eliminate crime. He said checking corruption and wrongs in police was one of the pre- requisites for peace in the society.
The police must have to eliminate corruption, lethargy and dereliction of duties and these should be replaced by honesty, dedication and the spirit to sacrifice for the society. The force should have an in-built mechanism to kick out black sheep from the force.
The chief minister said that the government had given maximum incentives to the police force including raising their salaries, allowances and other announcements for those killed and now it was the time of police to prove its worth. Chief Secretary Ejaz Qureshi, Secretary Home Abdul Karim Qasuria, IGP Raffat Pasha and other officials attended.
