TOBA TEK SINGH: Sugar mill guard injured by robbers

TOBA TEK SINGH, Feb 18: Robbers on Wednesday shot at and hurt another security guard of the Kamalia sugar mills. Reports said guard Rashid was on his way to mills when armed men stopped him and, on resistance , shot at and injured him. He was admitted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.

Four robbers had injured Yousaf, a security guard of the same mills, and taken away Rs400,000 from cashier at the mills' purchase centre on Tuesday.

SDO HELD: A Kamalia sub-divisional officer (SDO) of the PTCL was arrested while receiving bribe from a customer, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said on Wednesday.

Maqbool Ahmad of Kamalia had informed the FIA that SDO Ijaz Husain Sheikh was demanding Rs3,000 bribe for the installation of a telephone. The SDO was caught red-handed by the FIA while receiving marked currency notes from Mr Ahmad.

BAR RE-POLLS: The Pakistan Bar Council decided on Wednesday that the recently held Kamalia Bar Association elections were invalid. The date for re-polling would be announced later.

Election board chairman Syed Asghar Ali Rizvi had appealed to the PBC to declare the Kamalia Bar election invalid as irregularities were committed. The PBC appointed advocate Riaz Sanpal the officiating president of the Kamalia Bar till the new elections.
