LAHORE, Feb 13: Police have chalked out a comprehensive plan to maintain law and order and protect human lives on Basant. "Nobody in any case is allowed to use harmful material for kite-flying.

Any other activity endangering people's lives will also be watched and dealt with accordingly," city police chief Tariq Saleem Dogar told a meeting he presided over on Friday to review the Basant arrangements.

The meeting was told that the police in the last four days had arrested 111 men for violating ban on use of harmful material for the sport. Sixty spools of metal and chemical coated string, hundreds of kites and other banned material were seized.

Officers in charge of the four Lahore police divisions told the police chief that the arrests were made in raids on shops dealing in banned material, and other public places being used for the kite-flying.

Special mobile squads set up to keep an eye on the violators would work round the clock for next two days, the police chief said, and directed them to take action without discrimination.

On directives of the police chief, Lahore police operations chief Aftab Cheema also reviewed arrangements for the event. He asked his subordinates not to allow violation.

He also directed the SHOs to set up a team of each police station exclusively for Basant. He asked all the SPs to personally supervise the task. Meanwhile, the police have also set up special control rooms to coordinate with the squads.
