PESHAWAR, Feb 12: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah said on Thursday that education was the largest factor in changing the attitude of the people. Speaking at the 'all Pakistan talented girls gathering' held in connection with the golden jubilee celebrations of the College ofHome Economics at the Peshawar University, he stressed the importance of girls' education for bringing about a radical change in the society.
He said girls education was a taboo in the society in the past for centuries they were made to follow a strict regime within their houses.
He said: "We have remained highly attentive towards women's development in every sphere of life and given them 33 per cent representation in democratic institutions." He lauded the role of the Frontier Education Foundation and said it had opened 14 girls degree colleges while more were planned.
