PESHAWAR, Feb 12: An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday sentenced a person to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of killing his brother. Judge Khwaja Wajeehuddin also sentenced the accused, Yasir Khan, to 10 years imprisonment and fined him Rs100,000 for injuring his father.
The police had registered an FIR against the accused on Feb 29, 2001, charging him with killing brother Mohammad Tilla Khan and injuring father Haji Kareemullah.
The prosecution told the court that on the day of occurrence Tilla and Yasir exchanged hot words and the latter, in a fit of anger, opened fire, killing Tilla and injuring his father.
The defence contended that the accused was implicated in the case. He contended that there was no clear motive for the murder. The additional public prosecutor contended that the prosecution witnesses had deposed against the accused. He added that Haji Kareemullah was also a witness to the occurrence.
PML-Q LEADER HELD: The senior vice-president of PML-Q Peshawar, Arbab Ghulam Haider, was arrested after his pre-arrest bail was dismissed by the court headed by additional district and sessions judge Shehbar Khan.
The accused-applicant had sought for pre-arrest bail in a case pertaining to injuring a person of his locality, Irfan Khan. The prosecution claimed that Mr Haider fired at Irfan after an altercation between them in Deh Bahadur locality. The applicant claimed he was not present on the spot as he was under treatment at a hospital.
