KARACHI: 3-day music conference opens today

KARACHI, Feb 12: A three-day All Pakistan Music Conference will open at the Governor House on Friday evening. President Gen Musharraf is expected to inaugurate the conference.

At least 20 classical musicians, including Sitar maestro Ustad Rais Khan, will perform during the programme which will be held at Hindu Gymkhana on Saturday and Sunday.

Ustad Bashir Khan-Nazir Khan (Tabla Tarung), Abu Jani Farid Ayaz Qawwal (Kalam Hazrat Amir Khusro), Ustad Imdad Husain (Sitar classical), Ustad Naseeruddin Sami (Vocal classical) and Farida Khanum (Thumri, Ghazal and Geet) will perform on the inauguration day.

On the second day, Fakirs of Dargah Bhit Shah (Wayee of Shah Latif), Hanif Lashari-Wahid Bux (Bandish Megh and Kafi), Ustad Bashir Khan (Tabla), Ustad Zafar Ali Khan (Thumri-Peelu and Kalingra Tarana), Ustad Rais Khan (Sitar classical), Mazhar Husain-Zulfikar Ali (Bandish-Sohni and Kafi), Sajid Husain (Sitar classical), Tina Sani (Ghazal and Geet), Ustad Salamat Husain (Flute-classical) and Ustad Fateh Ali Khan from Hyderabad (Kheyal-Chandni Kedara) will perform.

Mohammad Fakir and Party (Folk), Deedar Husain-Mohabbat Ali (Bandish-Bhopali and Kafi), Murtaza Niazi (Thumri, Ghazal, Geet), Nafees Ahmad-Raees Ahmad (Jugalbandi-Sitar and Violin), Saadat Ali Khan (Vocal-Nut Behag, Tilak Kamod), Noor Zehra Kazim (Veena classical), Parveen Nazar (Kafi, Thmuri), Mehnaz (Thmuri, Ghazal, Geet), Ustad Naseeruddin Sami (Vocal classical) and Ustad Fateh Ali Khan from Lahore (Vocal classical) will perform on the third day.
